How to advertise a retail or sales job in Malta

Make the role, commission model, shop location and working schedule clear in a sales vacancy.

Sales assistant, account manager and business development manager describe different work. A strong advert tells candidates whether they will serve customers in a shop, maintain business accounts or find new clients. It should also make the pay model clear before the application starts.

1. Choose the job category and relevant traits

Choose Jobs → Professional → Sales and retail. Job role includes Sales executive, Sales assistant, Store manager, Account manager, Business development manager and Merchandiser. Commission offers Fixed salary, Salary and commission and Commission only. Select the model that actually applies. Use employment, seniority, workplace and language traits where relevant, then explain the product and customers in the description.

2. Describe the actual role and working conditions

For example, “Retail sales assistant — homeware shop in Mosta” is specific. Describe customer advice, checkout, stock handling and any opening or closing duties. For a business development position, describe prospecting and account responsibilities instead. Explain targets and training without presenting uncertain earnings as guaranteed pay.

3. Make the salary and application route clear

If the role has a fixed base plus commission, enter and describe the base consistently and explain how commission works separately. For a commission-only arrangement, do not present a speculative annual total as a guaranteed salary. Keep the selected contract arrangement and actual relationship consistent, and obtain appropriate advice where the arrangement needs clarification.

In the job form, enter Salary from and, if useful, the optional maximum amount. Check Salary period: it defaults to Per year, so change it if you mean an hourly, daily, weekly or monthly amount. Choose the salary currency and Gross / net consistently with the offer. Required languages and Contract arrangement describe the vacancy; they do not run an automated candidate-scoring process. Complete required fields and use Detailed information for optional traits.

4. Review and publish the vacancy

  • Choose the closest sales or retail role.

  • Set the correct commission model.

  • Explain working hours, weekends and the actual location.

  • Separate guaranteed pay from potential earnings.

What should I say about sales targets?

Explain the type of targets and how performance is measured. Candidates benefit from knowing whether the role is service-focused, outbound or account-based. Avoid vague promises of unlimited earnings in place of a transparent description of the compensation model.
